Tom H. Hastings, a “Conflict Resolution” lecturer at Portland State University, recently claimed “it’s long past time to repeal the stupid Second Amendment” in an op/ed in the Wisconsin Gazette.

“Repeal the stupid Second Amendment,” he wrote. “Surround it, grab it, bring it in the back room, pull down the shades, and end it.”

“OK, petition for it, get it on the ballot, and get it done by enough of the U.S. populace, by enough people in enough states, to get it consigned to the dustbin of history.”

His statements reflect the emerging attitude among academics to disregard the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, an attitude which is turning college classes into mere extensions of Common Core.

It was just last year that a constitutional law professor admitted she teaches her students the Constitution and Bill of Rights are “obsolete.”

“Why do we keep such an allegiance to a Constitution that was driven by 18th Century concerns?” Mary Margaret Penrose of Texas A&M University’s School of Law said during a panel discussion on gun control.

Like Hastings, she also called for the repeal of the Second Amendment.

“Unfortunately, drastic times require drastic measures,” Penrose told her audience. “I think the Second Amendment is misunderstood and I think it’s time today, in our drastic measures, to repeal and replace that Second Amendment.”

Students are now taught to trash the Constitution as early as sixth grade thanks to the Common Core government education initiative, which steers the curriculum for thousands of public schools.

Sixth graders at the Bryant School District in Arkansas, for example, were given an assignment last year to “revise” the “outdated” Bill of Rights by deleting and replacing two amendments, using the “War on Terror” and the Patriot Act as a guide.

The worksheet, which was the first constitutional assignment of the school year, told students they were on a “National Revised Bill of Rights Task Force” tasked with prioritizing, pruning and adding amendments to a “Revised Bill of Rights.”

“The government of the United States is currently revisiting the Bill of Rights,” the assignment stated. “They have determined that it is outdated and may not remain in its current form any longer.”

Unfortunately this lack of respect for individual rights is conditioning an entire generation of students to just bow down and accept constitutional violations by the government, and that’s exactly what the establishment wants.

“…I believe those who think they’re superior want the population, the populace, to be as obedient as possible in case they need to send them off to war, in case they want them to work and pay taxes,” former congressman Dr. Ron Paul said in an interview regarding Common Core. “The whole thing is that ‘the state is sacred’ and in order to have a state, the government, continue to grow, it’s always at the expense of liberty.”
