Dem 2020 candidate Castro escorts LGBTQ illegals from Mexico into US — claims Trump is killing migrants ‘on purpose’

Presidential hopeful Julian Castro has roughly a zero percent chance of securing the Democratic nomination to take on Trump in 2020, and his odds of beating the president are even less.

So far, his career as a human trafficker is taking a similar trajectory.

Castro made a Twitter spectacle of his recent visit to Matamoros, Mexico that culminated with a parade of LGBTQ and disabled illegal immigrants following him across the Gateway International Bridge between the city and Brownsville, Texas on Monday.

Once across, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assessed their paperwork and sent them back to wait their turn like everyone else under the “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy.

“We … presented to the border agency here 13 people – members of the LGBTQ community and also a person who was disabled. Especially the most vulnerable migrants, members of the LGBTQ community, many, many of them have been persecuted before, they’ve been threatened, they’ve been beat up. They’re subjected to violence in their own country, and even here,” Castro said in a Twitter video.

The Texas Democrat argued LGBTQ illegal immigrants and disabled illegal immigrants should qualify for a special exemption under the Migrant Protection Protocols for handling asylum claims, which requires applicants to remain in Mexico pending the outcome of their case. The Epoch Times reports nearly 1 million illegal immigrants entered the U.S. in fiscal year 2019, and about 51,000 asylum-seekers were returned to Mexico under the Remain in Mexico policy.

“Many of the members of the LGBTQ community who have been beat up, who have been subjected to violence, they’re experiencing PTSD. They’re experiencing trauma. And that qualifies as a mental health issue” and a special exemption, Castro argued.

“We presented them and said that they should not be – even under the terms of the MPP program – they should not be in Mexico,” he said. “My hope is that they will be allowed to stay in the United States while they wait for their asylum claim to be adjudicated.”

Castro also alleged President Trump “is killing people – and it’s on purpose.”

The former mayor San Antonio alleged in the video that more than 1,000 asylum seekers are waiting in Matamoros, including families with “very young children” who are “chronically sick,” but he didn’t offer an explanation for why he decided to help the LGBTQ immigrants instead.

Whatever the reasoning, he’s not the first Democrat running for president in 2020 to put on a similar show at the border.

“In late June, former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas met with migrants returned to Mexico at a shelter in Juarez. Days later, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker accompanied five pregnant women in the Remain in Mexico program across the bridge from Juarez to El Paso,” The Los Angeles Timesreports.

CBP officials apparently disagreed with Castro’s assessment of asylum laws and returned all of his travel companions back to Mexico by dinner time.

“BREAKING: We just heard the terrible news that all 12 of our clients escorted by @JulianCastro were sent back to Mexico,” Texas Civil Rights Project tweeted Monday afternoon. “This is of course is a mockery of due process.”

The Texas Civil Rights Project went on a Twitter rampage that concluded “there is no intent to protect migrants in the so-called ‘Remain in Mexico.’”

Virtually everyone who responded to the diatribe were elated to learn Castro’s stunt backfired.

“What’s a mockery of due process is people thinking they can just cross the border of a country and expect special treatment. There are processes in place for a reason,” RE Investor Guy tweeted. “Remember, nobody is above the law. Hundreds of thousands of us did it legally. So can they.”

“Sounds like they got a speedy hearing,” Covfefe Kimmie posted. “Awesome!”

“Good! Glad to see immigration laws being upheld,” Travis added. “It’s important.”

Some took aim at Castro specifically.

“The LBBTQ/disabled people were used as a prop for Castro nothing more. This is exactly what he wanted,” Skyler wrote. “He took advantage of their LGBTQ/disabled status for PR. He is a slime ball.”

“They should have escorted @JulianCastro with them,” The Real Lorenzo posted.

“Why hasn’t Castro been indicted for trafficking?” Nikki Broadbeck added.

“Will someone please tell little Julian he has a 0 (zero) chance of becoming president, ever, so he can stop the silly stunts,” Dillon wrote.
