In reference to calls by some Democrats that Congress must impeach President Donald Trump, constitutional scholar and best selling author Alan Dershowitz said an impeachment will not work because the Republicans control the Senate and, if Democrats push it, such action will backfire and end up benefitting the president.
House Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) has been calling for the impeachment of Trump for over a year. Last week, new House Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) told a crowd of her supporters, “we’re going to go in there and impeach the motherf***er.”
On the Jan. 3 edition of Good Day New York, Fox 5, a co-host asked Dershowitz, “Attorney and political expert Alan Dershowitz says starting impeachment proceedings against President Trump would be a mistake. It’s actually the subject of his book, The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump. … Why did you feel this topic was so important to write about?”
Dershowitz, emeritus Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, said, “I’m a liberal Democrat. I campaigned hard for Hillary Clinton. I campaigned hard for the Democrats to takeover the House – I’m thrilled that the Democrats have taken over the House. Now there’s a check and balance on our president.”
