Security was stepped up at the British Embassy in Italy after two people were seriously hurt at two other embassies following bomb blasts.
The first device went off at the Swiss embassy where a 53-year-old employee in the post room was left seriously injured, after it exploded as he opened it, with doctors saying he risked losing a hand.

Two hours later another letter bomb went off at the Chilean embassy in the Italian capital, again injuring a staff member working in the post room and who was named as Cesar Mella, although he was not hurt as seriously.
