According to Gallup, 17% of Americans in May approve of the job Congress is doing, which is down from 18% in April. In addition, 43% approve of the job President Trump is doing (for May 7-13), but 52% disapprove.

In the survey on Congress for this month, Gallup asked 1,015 adults by telephone, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job?”  Seventeen percent said they approve.

“Congress’ May job approval rating is close to the average 18% rating the legislative body has received since January 2017,” said the survey firm.  “Approval was higher from February to July of last year, peaking at 28% in February 2017as Republicans’ approval was temporarily elevated after Trump took office.”

“Approval of Congress’ performance sank to 13% in October and November 2017 but improved to 20% in January of this year following the passage of Trump’s tax bill,” reported Gallup.  “Ratings of Congress have been slightly lower since then, ranging from 15% to 18% since February.”

For the president, “Gallup tracks daily the percentage of Americans who approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing as president. Weekly results are based on telephone interviews with approximately 1,500 national adults, with a margin of error is ±3 percentage points.”
