Happy May Day! #solidarity
— Nate Snyder (@NateSnyder) May 1, 2012
An official with the Department of Homeland Security has come under scrutiny for tweeting what many have considered to be an openly socialist message.
Nate Snyder, a special adviser to Homeland Security Secretary “Big Sis” Janet Napolitano, sent out the message “Happy May Day! #solidarity” on his Twitter account yesterday.
Snyder has been operating as a “Community Partnership and Strategic Engagement” officer in the DHS for almost two months. His profile on LinkedIn notes says he previously worked as Deputy White House Liaison at the DHS.
Snyder has also worked for the Service Employees International Union, and played an active role in Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
The Daily Caller highlighted the context of Snyder’s tweet and reported that White House spokesman Eric Schultz did not immediately respond when asked if the Obama administration shares Snyder’s support for May Day. Two separate DHS officials also declined to comment.
Snyder’s somewhat embarrassing tweet comes at an inopportune time for the Obama administration as it attempts to fend off criticism over its new campaign slogan, “Forward” — a term, as highlighted by The Washington Times, with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
