President-elect Donald Trump hasn’t even taken office yet, but is already facing criticism for considering establishment Republican figures for spots in his cabinet.

The latest shots taken at Trump come from the former Governor of Arkansas, and Trump ally, Mike Huckabee, who said during an interview with Fox News that if Trump appoints Mitt Romney it would be an “insult” to those who voted for him.

Trump is considering Romney for Secretary of State according to reports, a potential appointment that triggered Huckabee into taking pointed shots at the President-elect.

“It would be a real insult to all those Donald Trump voters who worked really hard.” Huckabee said.

“[Romney] attacked [Trump] on a personal level about his character, his integrity, his honor,” Huckabee declared.

“When you do that, there’s only one way that Mitt Romney can be considered for a post like that, and that is if he goes to a mic in a very public place and repudiates everything he said in that famous Salt Lake City speech and everything he said after that — Donald Trump wasn’t fit, that he lacked character. I mean, on and on.” Huckabee added.

Huckabee, a former candidate himself, was referring to a speech Romney gave earlier this year when he said a “safe and prosperous future” would be under grave threat if Trump were elected.

Romney also openly called Trump a “phony,” a “fraud” and a “con man,” and was even at one point rumored to be considering a late run in an attempt to derail Trump’s path to the GOP nomination.

“When you go after the person that is the nominee of your party, who has been duly nominated by the voters, and then you’re savaging the voters, you’re not just savaging Donald Trump,” Huckabee said.

In a further interview with Fox & Friends, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich pondered whether if Romney becomes Secretary of State, “he will advocate Trump’s ideas or his own.”

Gingrich added that he believes there are people more qualified than Romney on foreign policy who should be considered for the position.

Trump’s other potential picks for Secretary of State, Rudy Giuliani and John Bolton, have also not sat well with the core Trump supporters who do not wish to see further US involvement in foreign entanglements.

As Senator Rand Paul has noted, both Bolton and Giuliani have a track record of supporting US intervention in the Middle East and beyond.

Despite the criticism being leveled at Trump over his cabinet picks, a majority of Americans have indicated that they believe Trump will do a decent job as president. A CNN poll found that 53 percent think Trump will do either a fairly good or very good job in office.
