Religious and political leaders across the Muslim world today welcomed a decision by a small church to cancel its ‘International Burn-A-Koran Day’.
However, the leader of the Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, has since backtracked on an earlier announcement, saying he made it on the basis that the site for a planned mosque near Ground Zero will be moved.
The construction of the mosque will go ahead as planned, developers said in response.
Reverend Terry Jones triggered international outrage when he said followers would burn the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
