House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi admits she’s not the “biggest fan” of President Trump’s border wall, but she’s willing to “sit down and talk this through” because she has some bright ideas.
One option, she suggested in an interview with The Arizona Republic, is to cut the grass along the border so illegal immigrants can’t slither through like snakes.
“Do you think you can get House Democrats to support something that would result in the construction of something that isn’t already standing at this point, if it brought some assurance for the Dreamers?” congressional reporter Ronald Hansen asked the 77-year-old representative from San Francisco.
“I’m not the wall’s biggest advocate in Congress, but I do know that representatives in the House and Senators in that body from the border areas have some serious objection to a wall. To a wall,” Pelosi stammered as she suffered a face spasm. “Because they know how detrimental it can be to a community, to trade, to all the other aspects of a border.”
Congress should forget about Trump’s wall, she said, and focus on more practical possibilities.
“But again, let’s sit down and talk this through and see what makes sense, not some commitment to a promise that we’re going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it. That’s never going to happen,” Pelosi said.
“But let’s talk about where a more serious structure might be necessary, where fencing will do, or where mowing the grass so people can’t be smuggled through the grass, that’s something,” she said.
Pelosi was in Arizona as part of a 100-city tour across America organized by Democrats to trash Trump’s tax cuts as an assault against low-income Americans in favor of the ultra-rich, The American Mirror reports.
During a talk at the Arizona Center for Economic Progress on Tuesday, after Pelosi invoked the words of Martin Luther King Jr., one woman reminded the former House Speaker she’s among the most wealthy in Congress.
Speaking about the budget, Pelosi said “this isn’t about Democrats or Republicans. This is about the United States of America and our children’s future. …
“It can’t possibly be a statement of values for us to talk about, as Martin Luther King said, … ‘God never intended for one group of people to live in superfluous inordinate wealth while others live in abject poverty,’” Pelosi said to applause.
The duplicity was too much for one woman.
“How much are you worth, Nancy?” she shouted.
Pelosi quickly shot down her heckler.
“No, we’re not talking about that,” she said. “In any event … I can out … I’m a mother of five, I can speak louder than anybody.”
Pelosi is believed to be the sixth richest member of the House, and seventh richest in Congress, with a staggering worth of $100,643,521 in 2015, according to OpenSecrets.org.
That makes Pelosi the richest woman in Congress, where she ranks 15th in seniority out of 431 representatives.
