President Trump’s odds of winning the Nobel Peace Prize just increased significantly in the wake of his Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Ladbrokes slashed the odds Tuesday of Trump either winning the prize alone or with someone else in 2018 or 2019 from a pre-summit 10/1 to 6/4. William Hill also pegged the odds at a post-summit 6/4.
“Love him or loathe him, Trump has made history where others have failed,” said Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes, according to Reuters.
While President Trump and his administration’s efforts with Kim Jong Un and North Korea have been largely successful thus far, he may find his most significant roadblock to the $1 million Nobel Prize in the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee itself, some of whom have been vocally critical of Trump in the past.
“Donald Trump you may have set the news agenda but at what cost? Divisive and irresponsible from a presidential hopeful,” Nobel committee member Thorbjoern Jagland tweeted in 2015. Jagland has also praised former President Obama as a “statesman” while writing last December that President Trump “is insulting Muslims on Twitter.”
