Senator hits back over tired “racist” jibes.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul blasted an NPR radio host Tuesday following a blatant attempt to dredge up controversial writings that a former employee of Paul’s published years ago.

“On Point” host John Harwood felt the Senator’s wrath when he started off his interview by persistently talking about Jack Hunter, a staffer who recently resigned when old pro-secessionist writings previously unknown to Paul came to light.

The non-story has been floating around since June, with several establishment lapdog outlets, including The Economist, attempting to use it to paint up Paul and other libertarian figures as racist.

“Don’t you have anything better — don’t you have something better to read than a bunch of crap from people who don’t like me?” Paul said to Harwood.

“That won’t make for much of an interview if I have to sit through … recitation of people calling me a racist,” the Senator added.

“I don’t accept all of that, and I don’t really need to or spend the time talking about all of that. If you want to talk about issues and what I stand for, I’m happy to, but I’m not going to go through an interview reciting or respond to every yahoo in the world who wants to throw up a canard.” the Senator urged.

“Why don’t we talk about Rand Paul and what I’m trying to do about growing the party, and then we might have an intelligent discussion?” Paul continued.

Still Harwood would not let the issue drop, prompting Paul to state “You want to dwell on something and you want to dwell on critical articles of people who don’t like me and don’t support any libertarian ideals.”

“He’s no longer on my staff,” Paul said of Jack Hunter. “Many of the things he wrote were stupid and I don’t agree with [it], they weren’t things I was aware of or reasons why I hired him.”

Paul did defend his former staffer, however, saying the mainstream media has unfairly made him out to be a racist, when that is not the case.

Paul advised Harwood to move on to serious subjects such as indefinite detention and foreign aid, “Those might be some pertinent issues rather than doing ad hominem on me,” he noted.

It is clear that with Paul’s increased hints at a potential presidential run for 2016, the establishment is beginning to sick the attack dogs on the Senator. Paul’s enemies are clearly not pleased with the support he is garnering off the back of constantly challenging the military industrial complex, as well as tackling subjects such as the erosion of civil liberties and government overspending.
