Sweden has actually found something “positive” about all the shootings that have occurred in recent years.

“The treatment of shooting victims becomes better when shootings are more common.”

Doctors and healthcare personnel at Malmö Hospital have gained greater experience in receiving patients injured by shootings, reports Swedish Radio.

Since the turn of the year, 22 people have been shot in Malmö. Six people have died and 16 were injured, ranging from mild to lifelong injuries. Throughout last year, 31 people were arrested in connection with shootings in the city, according to figures from the Malmö police.

Even though shooting injuries are nothing new in the city, they have become much more common at the hospitals in recent years. When the hospitals now receive shooting victims, it is done with more experience.

“Knowledge of the injuries has increased as it has gone from a few to regular,” says Mikael Ekelund, at the Malmö Hospital.

“Sweden will hopefully not become a school of injuries, but the amount available still requires us to provide us with that knowledge,” he adds.
