ID checks at the borders have now begun, reports several media, and immigrants are said to extremely happy that visas are not checked, and that the controls therefore are completely meaningless.
– I was shocked and very scared that Swedish ID was required. It was lucky that it went well with a Syrian passport, says an Arab, to Aftonbladet.
According to SVT, a control has also been set up at Hyllie station in Malmö, so that domestic passengers avoid going through ID check, but all others will be checked.
Sweden has had internal border controls since November, but from today all travelers coming from Denmark must show identification documents to come to Sweden.
However, that visas are not checked, means that immigrants can travel freely across the border as long as they can show some kind of identification.
Many speculate, however, that visa controls will be introduced in the next step, which would put an effective stop to all illegal immigration using the form of transportation included in the controls.
