The NY Times: We Are Too Stupid To Act Without the State

Greetings to LRC readers! We dug out of more than a foot of wet, heavy snow this morning, lost our electricity, water, and even cell coverage, and had to navigate some treacherous roads. But I made it to my office, where there is power and even could boil some water to make myself a cup of tea!

I realize that none of this would have been possible without “Big Government.” Now, I did not know that the Visible Hand of the State was guiding my every steps, but it must be so because the New York Times says so. Yes, the NYT declares today that “A Big Storm Requires Big Government [2],” and everyone knows that the NYT only speaks wisdom and truth.

We find in the editorial that apparently no one ever was able to do anything to deal with weather or nature-related disasters until Jimmy Carter created FEMA, even though FEMA’s original intention was to deal with nuclear disasters (you know, the human-created horror stories). But now we know that ONLY the federal government can coordinate the efforts of everyone because, after all, the federal government — when run by politicians approved by the NYT — always operates with omniscient wisdom. It must be so, it MUST be so.
